€290 subsidy each way Dublin and Knock

Friends of the Irish Environment today called on the Minister for Transport to abandon plans to continue subsidizing internal aviation flights which are directly competing with Iarnr??d Éireann.

The subsidised routes to Kerry, Galway, Knock and Sligo all compete directly with train services to Dublin. This subsidy has rocketed since introduction at a level of €1.1 million a year in 1995 to €20 million a year in 2003.

Subsidies per passenger reached a shocking peak in 2003 of €290 subsidy each way for a trip between Dublin and Knock.
