Biodiversity
Before such large scale mechanical extraction bogs were one of the last areas of wilderness. Many vulnerable species depend on our bogs for their very survival. Butterflies such as the Marsh Fritillary, frogs, dragonflies , otters , insects and birds such as Greenland Whitefronted Geese, Skylark, Golden Plover ,Curlew, Red Grouse and Snipe all rely on the vanishing peatlands. And there are numerous plants that only grow in bogs whaich are an essential part of the bog ecosystem Plants provide people with many useful and often life saving medicinal products. By reducing biodiversity we reduce potentially beneficial options both now and in the future.
